Thanks for the reply. The express cache is the 8GB ssd on the MB, it allowed for the 20 second boot times we would get and faster program launching if it was set up properly, couldn’t live without it because it makes everything so quick. But since you have an SSD installed, it really wouldn’t be needed. I’m thinking of making the move but I’m afraid I’ll loose that support and I also hear the brightness control wasn’t working or the graphics card switching between the NVIDIA card and Intel card, but you said all those secondary FN works. I windows 10 on my Acer laptop and a few things aren’t working but I do like 10 for the most part and I need to keep current, 7 is boring right now.

Function keys and backlit keyboard work just fine. I don’t know what the express cache is; if that has anything to do with rotating media, that was overcome by events when I upgraded the original 1TB HDD to a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD right before upgrading to Windows 10. Since that update I’ve gone from using the Samsung to using my MBP (16GB, 1TB SSD, Retina Display) and an even older Samsung R580 running Ubuntu 16.04. I keep the Samsung around due to its “legacy” status, and pull it out only when I need to make sure it’s patches are up to date or I actually need to use a Windows-only application (there are two).

I thought I’d be happy with Windows 10. I wrote how I thought Microsoft was “more trustworthy.” I thought Microsoft was finally doing right by its customers with Windows 10. But over time that has changed. I don’t believe that anymore. It’s still the same old Microsoft. If (or when) Microsoft pushes us over to a Windows subscription system, then I’ll finally break down and wipe Windows from that drive, and reload Linux over it.

A couple of years ago, it was time for another and I purchased a System76 desktop, which has worked quite well for us. Their latest laptops look pretty nice. Just thought they might be something you’d be interested in looking into.
